CHICAGO — Tucked inside Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood is a spooky little horror-themed coffee shop called “The Brewed.”
The Brewed, whose name is a play on the movie “The Brood,” is decked out in old-school movie posters and merchandise from classic horror movies. The checkered floor and bright purple walls make you feel like you’re back in the 80s.
Old-school movie posters and vintage Halloween paraphernalia line the walls of the Brewed, and the best part is that it’s not too scary that your kids can’t go. My son loved looking at the posters on the wall and really liked the “Munsters” car on top of one of their glass displays. He also got a huge kick out of seeing the giant Candyman on the wall.
Make sure when you visit, you set aside some time to look at all the wall decor and little items inside the glass displays. There are tons of little gems to spot — for example, if you look behind the counter you’ll notice some smiling pumpkin mugs on top of a coffee machine. The glass cases also have vintage Halloween toys and old school games.
As for coffee and treats, I went with a small group and we all got iced mochas. We also tried out their lemon poppyseed donuts — yum! Their menu includes various hot beverages such as cappuccinos, chais and lattes and they also have teas and cold brews.
