From classic characters to unexpected twists, this list captures what I believe will be the most popular costumes we see this season. The roundup is based off a few things: Everything I saw at San Diego Comic Con, the trending things I’ve seen on spooky Instagram and based on what HalloweenCostumes.com has deemed as their most trending costumes throughout the month of August.
Each photo collage below takes you to either my Amazon Storefront or my LTK Page where I’ve listed where you can purchase each costume or create your own.
10. Carmy from “The Bear”

The No. 10 pick may show my bias since I’m from Chicago so I hear about the show nonstop. Everyone’s favorite Chicago chef has such a simple costume. You’ll be hearing a lot of people shouting “Yes, Chef!” this Halloween. Grab a group of friends together and you can be the entire Original Mr. Beef crew.
9. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has left an incredible mark on pop culture, and it’s no surprise that her iconic stage outfits have become highly sought-after costume ideas. Swifties and music enthusiasts alike will have an easy last-minute costume idea if they went to the concert. Don’t put away those heart-shaped sunnies just yet!
8. Ghostface

The film dropped in June and the slasher costume is easy to recreate as its found at just about any big box retailer. We’ll be seeing a lot of masked killers running around Halloween this year. While you can get the classic costume at places like Party City, there are creators who will make screen-accurate luxury costumes.
7. Ariel from “The Little Mermaid”

Both the new and original Ariel made an appearance at San Diego Comic Con this year, so you bet you’ll see both adults and little ghouls dressed up as this classic Disney princess. You may even see an Ursula here and there.
6. Spider-Man

My friends and I walked by a Spider-Man meet up during our convention visit. There were characters of all different variations of the Spiderverse. Kids and adults alike are sure to dress up as the iconic superhero.
5. Indiana Jones

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” dropped in June, meaning the beloved archaeologist has once again captured the hearts of fans. Also, the hat can be used as an Oppenheimer piece if you’re going to partner up with the No. 1 choice for this year’s top costume.
4. Wednesday Addams

Wednesday Addams, the delightfully dark and deadpan character from the Addams Family, is sure to be a standout Halloween costume choice this year. It seemed like ages ago that the show premiered on Netflix, but since it premiered right after last Halloween, this is the year we’ll be seeing a ton of Wednesdays walking around.
3. Princess Peach and Bowser

Whether as a couples costume or people dressing as the individual characters, these two are going to be almost as popular as the No. 2 pick. You’ll be hearing a lot of people singing the “Peaches” song as they go trick-or-treating.
2. Mario and Luigi

There were way too many Mario brothers and other Nintendo characters at Comic Con to count this year. From kids to adults, to couples to giant groups, these characters will be a big hit on Halloween night. The classic Nintendo characters have always been popular but with the movie that came out in April, there will be a big surge in Mario Bros.
1. Barbie and Ken

It’s no doubt Barbie will be this year’s hot costume, along with her buddy Ken. The marketing campaign for the “Barbie” movie has been nothing short of brilliant, generating excitement and anticipation among fans of all ages.
What makes Barbie so appealing is her incredible versatility, with countless variations of the iconic doll available. From classic 1950s Barbie to modern-day iterations, everyone can find a version that resonates with them.
You can expect to see plenty of these fashionable icons gracing Halloween parties and events this season.
