CHICAGO —The second episode of Disney’s “Cars on the Road” pays homage to “The Shining” and “The Haunted Mansion,” and not enough people in the spooky community are talking about it.
My son is a huge fan of “Cars” so we binged “Cars on the Road” when it came out — and by WE I mean just him. But I did occasionally look up from my computer to watch the show and noticed that Episode 2, called “Lights Out” was very spooky.

Disney is already known for putting Easter eggs throughout its movies but this one was a total spoof of one of the community’s favorite scary movies, and it was easily my favorite episode.
Let’s look at all the spooky pop culture references made throughout the second episode:
“The Shining”
The patterned carpet from the Overlook Hotel

“Racecar” is written on the door instead of “Redrum”

The twin ghost cars saying “Come race with us Lightning.”

ALSO, let’s talk about how this scene was actually super creepy and if I was a kid, it would be one of those things I suppressed for years until someone brought it up. Like those “Courage the Cowardly Dog” episodes from our childhoods.
The infamous blood scene — but instead of blood it’s antifreeze

“The Haunted Mansion”
The signage at the hotel

Ghosts in the ballroom

Portraits in the hallway

Did I miss anything? It’s been a few years since I’ve seen “Haunted Mansion” so there very well may have been more references to the movie.
