Hi, spooky friends!
I’m Melissa — the creator of Splash of Spooky. This is the one corner of the web where Spooky Season lasts all year and the pumpkin spice never runs out. Halloween is a yearlong event for October lovers like me.
I created Splash of Spooky because I wanted a place on the internet where I could scroll through photos and videos of things that made me happy. I also wanted a place to connect with other fall fanatics without anyone saying “It’s too early for that stuff.”
My two favorite holidays are obviously Halloween and Thanksgiving. I really do think Thanksgiving is an underrated holiday, so you’ll see a lot of that reflected in the content I share. I love me some Halloween, but there’s something about Thanksgiving morning that really ties together the whole season.
I certainly skew more toward pumpkin spice and general autumn vibes than what you may see in other Halloween spaces. Sorry friends, no creepy stuff here!
You’ll see plenty of fall-themed stories on the website but another great place to see all the fun stuff I find throughout my Halloween Hunting adventures is on Instagram. There’s a great community of Halloween friends on there and you should be a part of it! The more, the spookier.
On Splash of Spooky always you’ll find ways to keep the fall season alive year round.

Another great place to see tons of fall fun? My Patreon page where you get a look at the behind-the-scenes efforts that go into Splash of Spooky. Plus, you get access to my card exchanges.
So Why Do I Love Fall So Much?
There are a million reasons why. Mainly, it’s because I hate summer — the heat, the sun, the hoards of people outside. Ugh. I’ll take a chilly fall day any time. But fall also has a lot of nostalgic ties for me. Many of my favorite childhood memories happened during the -ber months.
I have wonderful memories of having Halloween parties and giant Thanksgiving dinners with friends and family as a kid. I also think back fondly to the back-to-school season anytime I see the leaves change color. In college, while school technically started in the heat of summer, it quickly transitioned into fall and my school’s campus was beautiful that time of year. They also had a club called October Lovers Club which I joined and fell even more in love with the fall season. The one good thing about going off to school in the middle of the cornfields was being able to see all the Midwestern beauty the -ber months had to offer.
Fall is just a season that fills me with joy.

My Favorite Thing About Fall?
I don’t have just one. Here are my top three:
- Going into Michaels in July and seeing the harvest items on display. I know that’s “technically” in the summer but that first drop of orange is the official start for me. My grandma and I had a tradition where every summer we would head to Michaels to see if they had any Halloween stuff out yet. We’d always wait til the end of July and sure enough, we’d walk in there with our shorts and tank tops on, AC blasting and BAM! Ghosts and pumpkins and turkeys and fall everywhere!
- Counting down until the day Starbucks releases the Pumpkin Spiced Latte. YUM!
- Thanksgiving & Friendsgiving. A giant meal shared with my loved ones? Perfection.

Others Things You Should Know About Me
I’m a Chicago-based blogger. And I talk about Chicago. A LOT. There aren’t too many fall/Halloween bloggers over here. So I like to share about everything that makes Chicago one of the spookiest towns around
When I’m not obsessing over spooky things, I love to read. Some of my favorite books include “The Silent Patient,” “How Not To Die Alone,” “The Woman in the Window” and of course, “Harry Potter.” I’m a Slytherin who skews toward Hufflepuff.
I love to write. I’m currently working on a few Halloween picture books.
My son was born in the fall and I’m raising him to be a spooky-lovin’ little ghoul!
